For the first time since its premiere in the 1990s, Jonathan Dove’s orchestration of Das Rheingold by Richard Wagner is coming to London with Paul Carey Jones in the role of “Wotan”. The new contemporary production by Director Julia Burbach and Music Director Peter Selwyn will open in London this Wednesday, 31 July (19:30) at Arcola Theatre followed by a number of performances until Saturday, 10 August.

The opera features 18 live musicians from the Orpheus Sinfonia and an exceptional cast of singers. As the opening of Wagner’s Ring Cycle it revolves around the Rhine treasure, which is guarded by three nymphs at the bottom of the Rhine. Alberich, a Nibelung dwarf, steals it and sparks a battle for domination which will stretch from the depths of the river to the mountaintop home of the gods.

"This is knock-your-socks-off music drama. Paul Carey Jones is a national treasure in waiting and it's time the world woke up to him."
