Frank Denyer 'The Fish that became the Sun' to be premiered by Christian Mason's Octandre Ensemble at the Huddersfield Festival of Contemporary Music

The Octandre Ensemble, co-directed by Christian Mason and Jon Hargreaves, gives the World Premiere performance of Frank Denyer's epic work ‘The Fish that became the Sun (Songs of the Dispossessed)’, at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival this Saturday, 23 November, at 17:00. The performance will be given in collaboration with New London Chamber Choir, Consortium5, with percussionists and vocalists from Trinity Laban, and violinist Benjamin Marquise Gilmore.

Frank Denyer epic 60-minute piece was composed between 1991 - 94 and it has waited 25 years for its premiere performance, which takes place at Huddersfield Town Hall. The work involves two conductors and 37 players, many of whom perform on self-built percussion instruments made from discarded materials.

This concert will launch the recording of the work on the Another Timbre label, as well as Denyer's recently published book, “In the Margins of Composition” (Vision Edition).
