Quentin Hindley conducts the Orchestre de Caen in a legendary winter concert

Quentin Hindley will be joined by soprano Helen Kearns and mezzo-soprano Fiona McGown in a programme of epic proportions. Camille Pépin’s La Source d’Yggdrasil represents the perpetual struggle between life forces and destructive powers, as symbolised by Yggdrasil, the world tree of Scandinavian mythology. At the source of this cosmic tree of the universe, three roots arise and connect between three different worlds: the world of the sky and the gods - Asgard, the terrestrial world of men and war - Midgard and the underground world of dead - Hel. The work takes us on a journey from Hel to Midgard, then from Hel to Asgard, before ending in Midgard; the true "middle earth".

The second half of the programme meditates upon the magical, featuring Félix Mendelssohn’s Le songe d’une nuit d’été, offering a whimsical take on Shakespeare’s beloved story.
