Ben Johnson steps in at the Hallé in Beethoven 250 series
Ben Johnson will perform under the baton of Sir Mark Elder at the Hallé on the 27th February as part of the Beethoven 250 series. He will sing Tremate, Empi, Tremate: Trio for soprano, tenor and bass with orchestra and the second act of Fidelio as Jacquino. with the Hallé choir.
The lesser-known trio was written by Beethoven while he was studying with Salieri, as a preparation for writing operas. Later revised, it was first performed in the same concert as the Eighth Symphony in 1814, the year when Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, was also premiered in its final version.
