News of the week | 9th July
The Carducci String Quartet will appear twice at the Lichfield Festival this week. They will be performing on 11th July, 11:30 with clarinettist Matthew Hunt in a programme featuring Howells, Bartok and Mozart and on 14th July for the final concert in their residency. In this concert, the Carduccis turn their attention to Debussy in this his centenary year. The repertoire also includes music by Haydn and Piazzolla. On 12th July the Quartet take a break from their Lichfield residency and return to the Wigmore Hall, London for a concert at 19:30 featuring a programme of works by Haydn and Bartok.
On 13th July at 21:00 Rinaldo Alessandrini and Concerto Italiano will present a programme of Monteverdi at the Festival des Abbayes in France.
It will be busy week for CLB conductors as well:
Jonathon Heyward begins rehearsals with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine. The concert, featuring music by Vivaldi, Calace, Dvorak and Rodrigo, will take place on 12th July at the National Opera Bordeaux.
Marzena Diakun will arrive in Montpellier to start her period with the Orchestre National Montpellier, which culminates in a concert on July 13th at the Opera Berlioz. The programme includes Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Chausson, Chabrier, Poulenc and Ravel.
On 14th July at 18:00, Quentin Hindley will direct the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra in the closing concert of the World Saxophone Congress in Croatia. The programme includes works by Yoshimatsu, Penderecki, Obradović and Tomasi and will feature acclaimed soloist Nobuya Sugawa, Othis Murphy, Pawel Gusnar and Nikola Fabijanić on saxophone as well as pianist Minako Koyanagi and percussionist Takako Yamaguchi.
