News of the week | 2nd July
This weekend will be busy for the Carducci String Quartet. On Friday 6th July, they will present a new cello quintet by Gavin Higgins at Cheltenham Festival with cellist David Cohen.
The Quartet will follow this with the start of their residency at Litchfield Festival, performing on Saturday 7th July with pianist Danny Driver and on Sunday 8th July a programme of minimalist works by Arvo Pärt and Philip Glass. This candlelit Cathedral event also includes The Opium Eaters by Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade’s, inspired by Thomas de Quincey and the late Beethoven quartets.
Jonathon Heyward will be appearing twice at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall this week.
On 5th July at 13:30 he will conduct an educational event ‘Come and Play with the Hallé’ as part of the Hallé's Summer series of school concerts.
On 7th July at 19:30 he will direct the orchestra and the Hallé Choir in a varied programme including works by Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Orff and Bizet.
The Van Kuijk Quartet returns from Baden-Baden this week after a successful debut at the Festspielhaus as part of their ECHO Rising Star Tour.
