QUATUOR VOCE dazzles at the RNCM's "French Connection" festival
Performing alongside British tenor Nicky Spence and pianist Jeremy Young, the French ensemble were greeted with outstanding critical acclaim for a programme of British/French works.
"The recital by Quatuor Voce epitomised the spirit of reciprocity. This superb French string quartet was joined by a British pianist (Young himself) and tenor (the powerfully eloquent Nicky Spence) for a programme putting Debussy’s G minor Quartet beside Britten’s Three Divertimenti, and Dutilleux’s Ainsi la nuit quartet with Vaughan Williams’s Housman settings, On Wenlock Edge: a masterly work that, in Kelly’s interesting supposition, actually influenced his teacher Ravel in his Piano Trio (given the next night).
Quatuor Voce made the Debussy as captivating and moving as ever, and were so insightful with the textural imagination of Britten’s concise, deceptively simple-seeming character pieces as to have me feeling, for the duration, that this vivid opus even eclipses his three numbered string quartets." - Paul Driver
