Augustin Lusson belongs to a generation of young up-and-coming baroque musicians and has recently distinguished himself as one of the foremost violinists and ensemble leaders to have recently appeared on the French scene. Augustin initially took up the violin to play pre-classical repertoire as well as both world and experimental music, while also learning sound engineering. Augustin was awarded 2nd Prize at the Concours international de musique baroque de Normandie de la Chapelle Corneille and was laureate of the WDR3 HIF Biber competition in 2016. At 18 years old, he was invited by Sigiswald Kuijken and La Petite Bande to tour with them and has since performed with ensembles such as Le Concert Spirituel (H. Niquet), Le Poème Harmonique (V. Dumestre), to name but a few.
Augustin has recorded extensively for Flora, Son an Ero, Alpha Classics, Erato and Maguelone, and has since set up his own label, Bathos Records and recorded a solo violin CD, Playback, with works by Baltzar, Roman, Guillemain and Johann Sebastian Bach.
Augustin Lusson is the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Beggar’s Ensemble, an ensemble whose main goal is to revive the English instrumental repertoire of the 18th century. In 2018, the ensemble won First Prize at the Early music international competition in Utrecht. They recorded two CDs to great critical acclaim; the first one featured works by Richard Jones (Diapason d'or, Coup de Coeur Classica) and the second was dedicated to the violin concertos by Jean-Marie Leclair.
Alongside this, Augustin enjoys playing modern, jazz and traditional music. He studied in Poitiers, Versailles and at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique in Lyon.
